YOGA FOR MUSICIANS
Yoga , or union, integrates body, mind and spirit for
a more creative, spontaneous and dynamic musical performance. Warm-ups, stretches
and postural exercises are given to ease the occupational aches and pains, while
increasing responsiveness and dexterity. Breath work (pranayama) is taught to
increase lung capacity and reduce stress, and meditation techniques are given
to tackle performance anxiety and support spontaneous, "in the moment"
improvisation. No experience necessary.
SOUND SADHANA
"Music is one kind of yoga, a path for realization and salvation
to purify your mind and heart."
--Ali Akbar Khan
Sadhana is sanskrit for spiritual practice. The Sound Sadhana is
a twice-monthly event providing the space, time and means for spiritual practice
through the yogic use of sound and chant. The yoga of sound is a vast and powerful
practice, encompassing many different traditions - kirtan, vedic chanting, mantric
meditation, naada yoga, Indian classical music, tantric bija mantras and more.
Together we will explore these practices and get a taste for ourselves of their
transformative effects. Each session is different - we may learn a raga, meditate
on silence, surrender to the ecstasy of kirtan, or share in Ann's latest source
of sound fascination. Guest musicians may drop in, anything might happen. Everyone
welcome, no experience required. Drop-ins welcome. $20 suggested donation at
the door.
